Your skin has a natural acid mantle and any moisturiser you use needs to be pH balanced to 5.5 or below in order to effectively hydrate and protect the skin. Soaps and detergents are alkaline substances which strip the skin of this natural acid mantle. That is why your hands feel dry after washing them with soap.

Interestingly, although soap is used to keep your hands clean and free of germs, the germs found on your skin actually thrive in an alkaline environment. As such if you have dry hands, it is probably a good idea to rinse them with some sort of mildly acidic solution after using soap to restore the natural protective acid barrier of your skin. A simple solution of 1 part apple cider vinegar to 2 parts water would be fine for this purpose.

Common ingredients in skincare are alcohols which are added for their preserving and "disappearing" properties. However alcohol (usually indicated by ingredients ending in an "ol" on your moisturiser label) is a drying substance and can cause you to feel as though you need more and more moisturiser over time.

Because so many moistuirsers use alcohols as one of their base ingredients, most people are used to putting on moisturiser and feeling as though it immediately disappears into their skin, however the truth is it is half evaporating off and half drying out your skin. Our moisturiser uses no alcohols and as such it can feel a little heavier when you first use it, but over time you will find it is very good at what it is made for - moisturising and protecting your skin. If you find it is too heavy for day use, you can use it as an effective night cream.

Many people ask if our moisturiser is for the face or the body. In light of the years of marketing the skincare industry has put into making people believe they need fifty different products for their skin,
this question is not surprising. The answer is that your skin does not have any
especially defined borders and while some parts are thicker and other parts are
softer, there is no danger in using the same moisturiser for your face as for your
body - it is all skin. Our moisturiser can be used on both the face and body and is
extremely healing and protective.
